Opening Scene: Cairo, 1938

“Nobody in the gallery was looking at the woman with the Beretta under her garter. They were looking at the king. Tutankhamun’s golden face stared past the crowd with the patience of three thousand years, and the schoolchildren pressed and shifted in front of it. The cameras came up, and Danielle let the bodies move her along the rail the way water moves a leaf. The room was cool and smelled of worn stone and very old linen.
“Satisfied she hadn’t been followed, she let her left hand drift toward the hem of her skirt. Beneath it the pistol sat snug against her thigh, cool as the museum air. A little Italian automatic no longer than her hand, small enough to hide inside a garter strap. Heavy enough to matter.”

the Mind Behind the adventure
Paul Donsbach
Paul Donsbach spent two decades in international corporate litigation—whistleblower cases, investigations for Fortune 500 companies, matters that reached the front page—before turning to family law and, eventually, to a copper document buried outside Jerusalem two thousand years ago. Five years of primary research into the Copper Scroll produced an original thesis about who wrote it and why, and The Babylon Code, the first novel in the Dead Sea Secrets series. He writes about how consequential things happen where no one is looking.
